Amid doubts, CFTC proposes position limits

Washington-The Commodity Futures Trading Commission on January 13 cleared the first hurdle in setting speculative position limits on 28 commodities, including several energy products, but the agency is still a long way from actually imposing those limits. The commissioners, by a 4-1 vote, approved for publication in the Federal Regis- ter a proposal to set position limits in futures and over-the-counter derivatives markets. But some questioned whether the limits were nec- essary or legally required under the Dodd- Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Pro- tection Act.
