Enbridge makes regulatory filing for Gateway oil line

Vancouver-Canadian pipeline company Enbridge has launched the regulatory phase of its Northern Gateway pipeline, taking direct aim at opening markets in northeast Asia for crude oil shipments from the Alberta oil sands. In filing an application late May 27 with Canada's National Energy Board, Enbridge left no doubt that it views China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan as the best bets for 280,000 b/d of the planned initial capacity of 525,000 b/d as it pursues a controversial plan to open the first markets outside North America for Canadian crude.
