Western Australia drums up opposition to new regulator

Sydney-Western Australian Mines and Petro- leum Minister Norman Moore has written to oil and gas companies seeking their support for the state's opposition to federal govern- ment plans to establish a national offshore petroleum regulator. The federal government has proposed establishing the national regulator, which would take the place of existing authorities under the jurisdiction of Australia's state gov- ernments, by January 2012.
