KNOC chases foreign oil acquisitions to boost output

Seoul-Korea National Oil Corporation is in talks to buy a stake in a Latin American oil company which would deliver it output equivalent to 10,000 b/d of crude, but is chasing a much bigger foreign prize that would add 200,000 b/d to energy-poor South Korea’s production base, the energy ministry said January 5. State-run KNOC is also pushing for another deal to purchase assets equivalent to output of more than 9,000 b/d this year, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, formerly the Ministry of Commerce, Energy and Industry.
