Hess joins list of capex cutters, with analysts seeing more to come

Houston-Big integrated Hess Corporation December 8 became the latest of a growing lineup of energy companies to slash 2009 capex in view of a deepening global slowdown. The company dropped next year's capital and exploratory program to $3.2 billion, or 36% of actual 2008 capital spending of around $5 billion, company spokesman Jon Pepper told Platts. That compares with the $4.4 billion Hess had projected a year ago for 2008.
