Indonesia's PLN shifting from fuel oil to coal, gas

Jakarta-Indonesia's state-owned power utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara expects to cut its fuel oil consumption in 2007 by 15.8% to 8 million kiloliters/year (about 138,000 b/d), as it boosts coal and natural gas use, a senior PLN official said November 17. The company's consumption of fuel oil in 2006 is expected to be between 9.2 million and 9.5 million kl. Consumption in 2006 would have been higher at around 12 million kl, had the company not increased its coal- and gas-fired generation, PLN's power plant and primary energy director Ali Herman Ibrahim said. The company consumed 11 million kl of fuel oil in 2005.
