OPEC shaves 2005 world demand estimate

London-Oil producer cartel OPEC Aug 17 shaved its estimate of world oil demand growth this year to 1.58-mil b/d from the 1.62-mil b/d previously forecast,citing preliminary data indicating lower than expected demand in major consuming countries.But it warned that these preliminary indications for the first half of the year should be viewed with some caution because of "their very preliminary nature," seemingly leaving open the possibility of an upwards revision in the future.
