FERC denies Colonial request to ban MTBE

Washington-The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has told Colonial Pipeline it may not ban MTBE-blended reformulated gasoline from its pipeline until the commission has a chance to study the issue.Colonial,the main products line from the US Gulf Coast to the Northeast,on February 24 filed with FERC a tariff supplement that would allow it to ban MTBE-blended RFG on its system March 12,a shorter time period than the 30 days typically required for tariff changes.A week later it amended that filing,saying at the request of its customers and to increase system flexibility it would allow deliveries of MTBE-laden RFG on its system after March 15 on a case-by-case basis.
