Despite the disincentives to further capacity expansions (especially in non-coastal regions) contained in the recently formulated Steel Industry Development Policy, two enterprises located in the north and northwest of the Chinese mainland commenced the implementation of long-delayed plans to set up stainless steel flat products operations. Founded in 1958 as a carbon steel manufacturer and located in Jiayuguan City of Gansu province, Jiuquan Iron & Steel Co. (JISCO) announced the purchase of an integrated cold rolling facility with an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes. JISCO has expressed confidence that it will obtain all necessary licences as well as financing amounting to approximately 110 million euros.
