Lanxess' Production of Butyl Rubber Impacted by Strike in Zwiindrecht

Cologne—Lanxess acknowledged that butyl rubber production at the company's plant in Zwijndrecht, Belgium, has been at a "standstill" for about three weeks because of a strike at the site, which will impact its first quarter 2014 earnings. In 2012, Lanxess completed a ?20-million expansion of its Zwijndrecht butyl rubber facility, increasing capacity by 10% to 150,000 t/y (PCN, 7 May 2012, p 4). The majority of the company's Zwijndrecht butyl rubber production is halobutyl rubber.
