Lanxess Expands Butyl Rubber Output, Adds Two Pilot Plants in Zwiindrecht

Zwijndrecht-Lanxess has completed an expansion of its Zwijndrecht, Belgium, butyl rubber capacity and built two pilot plants at the site for developing butyl rubber production technology (PCN, 5 July 2010, p 1). The expansion, representing an investment of ?20-mil-lion, increased the facility's capacity by 10% to 150,000 t/y. Lanxess noted that the project was completed "several months ahead of schedule" at the end of 2011. The majority of Lanxess' Zwijndrecht butyl rubber production is halo-butyl rubber.
