Indonesia Eyes South Sumatra, West Papua For 2 Upstream Petrochemical Complexes

Jakarta— The Indonesian government has selected Muara Enim, in South Sumatra, and Bintuni Bay, West Papua, as the locations for two new upstream petrochemical complexes that are intended to help shift the country from being a net importer to a net exporter, Jakarta Post reported. Panggah Susanto, the Industry Ministry's director general for manufacturing-based industry, said the South Sumatra project will use natural gas and coal to produce methanol and ammonia, while the West Papua complex will use natural gas to produce methanol, ammonia, polyethylene and polypropylene.
