The aim of establishing the world's greatest diamond mining monopoly was accomplished because there were men of vision, daring, and great financial genius who willed it to be achieved. The amalgamation of the diamond mines and the establishment of De Beers Consolidated Mines in 1888 might not have been accomplished as rapidly, if at all, without the will, leadership and vision of Cecil John Rhodes, Barney Barnato and Alfred Beit. However great the will of these men, the actual achievement of that objective could not have been realised without exceptional technical mining skills and expertise.
