Court Rules for ETE in Williams Dispute

Dallas-based Energy Transfer Equity won a ruling in Delaware Chancery Court on Friday that would allow the pipeline operator to get out of its proposed $20 billion takeover of rival Williams. Judge Sam Glasscock ruled that Energy Transfer had not breached the September merger agreement when it cited a tax problem that would prevent the deal from closing before the stipulated deadline. The decision allows Energy Transfer to walk away from the transaction, originally valued at more than $37 billion, without penalty (OD Sep.29'15).
