Much as expected, US exploration and production companies are announcing a further round of deep cuts in capital spending as a new year gets under way with little hope of a meaningful rebound in oil and gas prices any time soon. Continental Resources, Noble Energy and Hess Corp. (related) all announced big reductions in upstream capital spending for the coming year on Tuesday, following an earlier round of spending cuts in 2015.
