Oil Pipeline Spill in Northern Alberta

A pipeline spill in northwestern Alberta has resulted in some 22,000 barrels of oil and salt water being released into the sub-Arctic muskeg, the northern term for lowlying boglands. The spill -- near Rainbow Lake about 165 km south of the Northwest Territories -- was first discovered May 19 in a pipeline owned by Pace Oil & Gas, a small Calgarybased company which produces about 15,000 b/d.
