Atwood Orders New Drillship

Atwood Oceanics said it has ordered a new ultra-deepwater drillship from South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. for $600 million. Under the turnkey deal, Houston-based Atwood has secured price options for two additional deepwater rigs that must be exercised within nine months. The new rig, Atwood Advantage, will be a dual derrick drillship that can operate in water depths up to 12,000 feet and drill to a depth of 40,000 feet.
