In anticipation of future drilling above the Arctic Circle, the US has started working with Canada and other members of the Arctic Council on how to respond to oil spills and other emergencies in one of the harshest environments in the world. During recent testimony before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Michael Bromwich, director of the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), said the US is already working with Canada and other nations to make sure they are prepared before drilling starts.
