Lease Sale Excludes Woodlands

In advance of a Dec. 7 US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oil and natural gas lease sale, the US Forest Service has withdrawn more than 3,000 acres of public lands in Ohio's Wayne National Forest. The supervisor of the Wayne National Forest said the acreage was being taken off the sale so the Forest Service could study the possible impact of shale gas development – particularly deep-core horizontal drilling – on the land and its ecosystems (OD Oct.7'11).
