The US Interior Department has approved a pair of utility-scale renewable energy projects that will be developed on US public lands in Arizona and California. The projects will have a combined electricity generation capacity of nearly 500 megawatts. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Tuesday his department had approved the 300-megawatt Sonoran Solar Energy Project, the first-ever project approved for construction on public lands in Arizona; and the 186-megawatt Tule Wind Project to be located 70 miles east of San Diego, California.
