South Africa's young democracy held its fourth general election in 2014, while former president Nelson Mandela, the man who led the peaceful transition to the current Rainbow Nation, said goodbye to the world, having spent most of his 95 years representing a struggle against Apartheid. Even though those societal barriers were finally removed just over 20 years ago, the country continues to struggle with economic transition, where a wealth gap is reflected by the fact that only a small percentage of the population controls the vast majority of the country's assets.
