THE latest round of quantitative easing (QE3) in the US is likely to boost certain commodity prices as demand increases, Colin Hamilton, global head of commodities research at the Macquarie Group said.However, he added that the effects would only be short-term unless other central banks carry out similar measures.The US Federal Reserve announced it would purchase additional agency mortgage-backed securities at a pace of US$40 billion/mth last week, which investment bank Fairfax said should "mark an end to the contagion caused by the collapse of value in the mortgage-backed securities market".
