Alcoa will slash output and cut 13,500 jobs to reduce costs

Alcoa is set to slash its costs through additional production cuts, by selling four non-core businesses and by cutting 13 percent of its global workforce, the Pittsburgh-based aluminium producer said last week. Afurther135,000 tonnes of primary production will be cut, it said, bringing the total reduction in primary aluminium output to more than 750,000 tonnes, or about18 percent of annualised output.
