Rio Tinto 'scouring markets' to acquire copper juniors

RioTinto is looking to acquire large copper projects from junior mining companies in a bid to capitalise on the recent collapse in the value of mining shares, including those on London's Alternative Investment Market, the ceo of the company's copper division Bret Clayton said last week. "It's going to be a tough time for juniors, and it's a great opportunity [for RioTinto]. We are now scouring the market for opportunities," he said, confirming that the company is in talks with "some, but not all" of the companies it is interested in.
