DRC's mining review progresses, but some contract holders still need to come to table

The Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) has reported good progress in the final phase of its mining review, which is nearing conclusion, but some contract holders are "yet to come to the table with anything meaningful", it said. The final phase of the review of 61 mining contracts was unveiled on September 5 and the government hoped to conclude the process by September 30, it said. The DRC government is seeking to improve the terms of most contracts signed duringthe 1998-2003 civil war and increase participation of state-owned mining companies, such as Gecamines.
