The European ferro-silicon market may face a surplus over the summer as supply conditions return to normal. Scandinavian smelting capacity operated by Elkem, Fesil, Finnfjord and Vargon has recently come back on stream following earlier power-related cutbacks, which caused an acute shortage of material. While third-quarter negotiations have yet to begin in earnest, business is currently being concluded between 630 euros and 690 euros per tonne down from 640 euros -690 euros earlier this month.
