Guinea Aluminium Products Co (Gapco), which is planning to build a 2.6m tpy alumina refinery in the west African country, has short listed US investment bank Salomon Smith Barney to arrange financing for the 2.2bn dollars project. The package is likely to include a mix of private equity finance, bank loans and investment from power and aluminium producers. The International Finance Corp (IFC), part of the World Bank, said it was also being kept informed on the project, but was not presently involved in the financing plans. US-based consortium Gapco, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Boke Alumina Co (BAG), plans to build the 2.6m tpy alumina refinery near to the Sangaredi bauxite mine in the eastern region of Boke.
