Seafood processors should learn to recognize and avoid purchasing two species of lionfish from reefs associated with ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP), FDA warns in new guidance released on Tuesday. The document, Draft Guidance for Industry: Purchasing Reef Fish Species Associated with the Hazard of Ciguatera Fish Poisoning (. gov/16XX3mU) adds the two species of lionfish {Pterois volitans and Pterois miles) to a list of reef fish species for which measures to prevent CFP should be in place.
