U.S. ag groups question EU's commitment to dealing with SPS issues in trade talks

Acoalition of 64 U.S. food and agriculture organizations has questioned the European Union's commitment to dealing with sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues during negotiations for a free trade agreement. President Obama,on Feb. 12， gave his blessing to a U.S.-EU free trade agreement in his State of the Union address, announcing his support for a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. EU leaders gave a green light to the talks one week earlier at a European Council summit (see FCN Feb. 15， 2013， Page 15).
