Food contact notifications receive 'objection letters because of the shutdown

Any food contact notifications (FCNs) under review at FDA's Office of Food Additive Safety will begin receiving objection letters soon, thanks to the government shutdown that began early Tuesday morning. OFAS would have to deny the FCNs "because the agency would not have sufficient funds to operate the FCN program and, thus, would not be able to meet the statutory requirement that FCNs be acted upon within 120 days," Dennis Keefe， OFAS' director, explained to attorneys at Keller and Heckman's annual food packaging conference, on Sept. 18, according to a K&H blog (http://bit. ly/19MjRof).
