The diagnosis of BSE in a California dairy cow last month has stirred widespread speculation as to the impact on Latin American beef exports, but there is little consensus on who stands to win or lose."Beef processors will inevitably be impacted if we add this bad news to the recent market setback resulting from the scandal related to the use of the additive referred to as 'pink slime,' which is really beef trimmings treated with ammonium hydroxide for use in hamburger production," Gustavo Dieguez, president of Uruguay's Association of Beef Exporting Industries (Adifu), predicts in an April 24 status report to members.
