Letter from 1,200 signees warns Super Committee against ag research cuts

Some 1,200 organizations, companies, institutions and individuals have written the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction ("Super Committee") to warn against budget cuts to food and agriculture research spending."Investments in publicly funded research are critical for maintaining a successful agriculture and food sector. For every $1 invested in publicly funded agricultural research, $20 in economic activity is generated," says the letter, which was sent to the Super Committee on Oct. 19, with copies to both House and Senate agriculture committees and both chambers' agriculture appropriations subcommittees.
