Block on GE salmon among amendments pending before FDA-USDA spending bill

The Senate might take up an amendment next week that would ban FDA from using funds to approve the application of genetically engineered fish.The Senate failed, on Oct. 24, to finish the FDA-USDA spending bill for FY 2012 before going on a week-long break. It was wrapped into a so-called "minibus" of several appropriations bills as Congress races to fund the government before the latest short-term funding measures run out Nov. 18. The Senate returns to business on Monday.
