USDA lowers crop estimates, still sees record soybeans, large corn crop

USDA's 2015 U.S. corn production estimate dropped to 13.6 billion bushels in the Jan. 12 Crop Production report, down slightly from the November forecast and down four percent from the 2014 estimate, but still the third largest corn crop on record. The average U.S. corn yield was estimated at 168.4 bushels/acre, down 0.9 bushel from the November forecast and 2.6 bushels below the 2014 average yield of 171.0 bushels/ acre. USDA's latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, also released on Jan. 12, projected corn ending stocks at 1.8 billion bushels, up 17 million bushels and at their highest level since 2006/06.
