BP has sanctioned the Mad Dog Phase 2 project in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM) following a cost reduction push that brought costs down around 60% to US $9 Bn. Mad Dog Phase 2 will include a new floating production platform with the capacity to produce up to 140,000 b/d of crude oil from up to 14 production wells. Oil production is expected to start in late 2021.
