Petrel has sealed a deal to acquire a 20% stake in Amira Hydrocarbons Wasit, which holds a 25% interest in oil and gas exploration and production licences in the Wasit province of central Iraq. Petrel said the deal strengthens its position in Iraq, where it has had a presence since 1999. A strategic partnership with Amira also “allows Petrel to benefit from Amira’s reputation and local capability in Iraq”, said Petrel.
