Chevron $55m Bangladesh plan

State-owned Petrobangla has approved a US $55m plan of Chevron to explore for gas. “We have approved the plan to begin exploration activities in hydrocarbon-rich southern Bangladesh from next week, which will cost about $55m,” said Jalal Ahmed, chairman of Petrobangla. Chevron, which supplies around 40% of the gas consumed by Bangladesh, will conduct a 2D seismic survey on Block 7, which covers both onshore and offshore areas. The block also contains world's largest mangrove forest Sundarbans so has environmental concerns to consider.
