Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has warned no new oil and gas contracts will be awarded to international oil companies (IOCs) without prior necessary reforms, casting doubt on Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh's recent claim that the first deals could be signed within months ( IOD Jun.14'16 ). "These contracts will not be signed unless the necessary reforms are implemented in the framework of national interests," Iran's Tasnim news agency quoted Khamenei as saying on Sunday. His comments are likely a nod to domestic criticism of the draft Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC) for offering terms that are too favorable to IOCs.
