Ex-CNPC President to Face Graft Charges

Liao Yongyuan, the former president of China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) who came under investigation in March, has been expelled from the ruling Communist Party of China and will be prosecuted for corruption, it emerged on Monday (IOD Mar.17'15). The Party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection has accused Liao, 52, of embezzlement and accepting bribes. He is believed to have had ties to disgraced former security czar and oil industry "godfather" Zhou Yongkang, 72, who was sentenced to life imprisonment after a secret trial last week (IOD Mar.18'15).
