Statoil Adds to Tanzania Gas Haul

Norway's Statoil and Tanzania partner Exxon Mobil have notched up a sixth deepwater gas strike at the Piri-1 well in Block 2 offshore Tanzania. The discovery adds a further 2 Tcf-3 Tcf of recoverable gas resources, bringing the total on Block 2 up to around 20 Tcf in place, Statoil said (WGI Jun.11'14). "Additional prospectivity has been mapped and will be tested throughout 2014 and 2015. We expect to drill several additional exploration and appraisal wells and hope that the results from these wells will continue to add gas volumes for a future large-scale gas infrastructure development," Statoil's senior vice president for Western Hemisphere exploration, Nick Maden, commented.
