Finland’s Neste Oil says it is the first company in the world to begin using “tall oil pitch” -- a residue -- as a feedstock for refining into motor fuels, something not possible commercially before. Refiners in Finland of tall oil -- a useful product made from wood-pulp -- produce around 100,000 tons annually of its byproduct, tall oil pitch. Following test production last month, Neste Oil said on Thursday it aims to use significant quantities of this residue in the future and that, already this spring, motor fuel refined from tall oil pitch will be on sale at Finnish filling stations.
