Japan's Chubu Looks Set to Dodge Power Shortages This Summer

Japan's Chubu Electric Power is not expecting major electricity shortages this summer, despite the imminent closure of its Hamaoka nuclear power plant, thanks to spare capacity at its gas and oil-fired generation plants. A company spokesman told International Oil Daily Tuesday that the 3.6 gigawatt Hamaoka plant will close later this month after Chubu arranges electricity purchases from other utilities.
