Russian pipeline monopoly Transneft on Monday started filling the Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2) crude oil pipeline, designed to cut dependence on transit states, ahead of the planned launch of regular shipments in the next couple of months. A Transneft spokesman told International Oil Daily that the company will use 376,000 metric tons of crude to fill the 505 km section of line between Unecha on the Belarus border and a pumping station in Andreapol in the Tver region, almost halfway to the endpoint at Russia's new Baltic port of Ust-Luga. By October, Transneft plans to fill the whole 998 km line with 730,000 tons of crude. Transneft says it will fill the line from its own inventories.
