London Maple Looks to Branch Out Into Peruvian Ethanol Production

London-listed minnow Maple Energy said last week it is on track to start commercial production in the fourth quarter of this year at a $254 million ethanol plant now being built in northeastern Peru, ramping up to a maximum envisaged run rate of around 28 million-29 million gallons per year by mid-2012. Maple is setting up a vertically integrated sugar cane-to-ethanol project, with the distillation facility sited on the company's own land on which feedstock can be planted, grown under drip-feed irrigation and harvested all year round, thanks to the particularly arid local climate.
