Rosneft Pays Yukos

Russian state-controlled Rosneft has ended its long-running row with Yukos Capital after paying former managers of now-defunct Yukos almost 13 billion rubles ($433 million) last week. A Rosneft source told International Oil Daily it made the payments in line with a Dutch Supreme Court ruling. The money was paid into the bank that provided guarantees for Rosneft during a UK court trial earlier this year and will be converted into sterling and transferred to Yukos Capital this week (IOD Jun.29,p9). The UK court froze ￡425 million ($670 million) in Rosneft’s UK accounts several months ago amid the dispute with Yukos Capital. The row stemmed from Rosneft’s refusal to repay some 11 billion rubles that Yukos Capital had in 2004 lent Yukos’ main producing subsidiary, Yuganskneftegas, which was bought by Rosneft in Yukos bankruptcy auctions in 2007.
