Soku Restarts, But LNG Force Majeure Remains

Royal Dutch Shell says it has reopened its Soku gas plant in the Niger Delta, which supplies around 40% of feedstock for the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) project, after a fourmonth shutdown for repairs. But the force majeure declared on gas supplies to NLNG will remain in place. Shell's Nigerian affiliate, Shell Petroleum Development Co. (SPDC), was forced to shut the Soku plant in Rivers state, southern Nigeria, in November after it said the plant's pipelines had been badly sabotaged by condensate thieves (IOD Dec.2,p5). The Bonny Island liquefaction plant - supplier of around 10% of the world's LNG - also had to declare force majeure.
