US Oil and Gas Rig Count Rises

The number of oil and gas rigs at work in the US has risen for its first time 19 weeks, increasing by four to reach 1,043 rigs for the week ending Apr. 3, according to the latest data compiled by oil services firm Baker Hughes. Even with the modest rise, the Baker Hughes US rig count is down 49% from a peak of 2,031 last August, as a steep decline in oil and natural gas prices prompted producers to ramp down drilling and cut costs.
