Inpex Eyes Ichthys LNG Sales

Japan's Inpex said it hopes to ink LNG sales contracts for its US$20 billion-plus Ichthys project in northern Australia just before the final investment decision (FID) for the venture, signaling that accords may still be months away. No agreements with customers have yet been reached, an Inpex spokesman said. He declined to comment on the impact on the venture's marketing efforts of recent agreements by Tokyo Electric Power, Japan's biggest LNG importer, to buy almost 6 million tons/yr of LNG from rival projects in Australia and Papua New Guinea (IOD Dec.8,p3).
