DETROIT-Former Chrysler CEO John Riccardo, who died this month at age 91, is usually remembered as the man who hired Lee Iacocca in 1978 and then turned over the reins of the ailing company to the former Ford president, positioning Iacocca to save Chrysler. But it was Riccardo, Chrysler's boss from 1975-79, who placed the big bet that helped pave the road for the company's success in years to come.
