摘要

In this study, the removal capacity of organo-montmorillonite for a hydrophobic organic pollutant such as 4-nitrophenol was evaluated. Commercially available unmodified clay was treated under different conditions with aqueous solutions of three ionic liquids viz., 1 -butyl 3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate. 1-butyl 4-methyl pyridinium tetrafluoroborate and 1-methyl 3-octyl imidazoliumtetrafluoroborate. The modified materials were characterized by FTIR and WXRD analysis. The Langmuir and Freundlich were tested to fit the adsorption isotherms. The results indicate that montmorillonite modified by ionic liquids can be used as adsorbent for p-nitrophenol because of its high adsorption capacity and low cost. This study can be useful for cleaning water or analytical purposes.
